Alvera Gilbert

Alvera (Kaul) Gilbert was born February 14, 1923 in Hillsview, SD to John and Carolina Kaul.  She died peacefully at age 94 on October 6, 2017 in Spokane Valley, WA.  At age six, she moved with her parents to a farm near Circle, MT where she lived with two brothers and two sisters graduating from high school in 1942.  Alvera moved to Scobey, MT in 1943 to work.

In Scobey she met Paul Gilbert, and on March 25, 1944 was proud to become a farmer’s wife.  She worked alongside Paul on farmland homesteaded by his family until his death in 2008.  They had two children, Larry (Doris) Gilbert of Redmond, WA and Karen (Tim) Christensen of Otis Orchards, WA.

In 1985, she and Paul began spending winters in Arizona and later purchased a home in Wolf Point, MT.  Alvera moved to a retirement community in Spokane Valley in 2013 where she resided until her death. 

Alvera was active in church playing organ for many years and enjoying Bible studies.  She excelled in her hobbies of crocheting, baking, reading, playing pinochle, and Wii bowling. 

She is preceded in death by Paul, two sisters (Irene Entzel and Verna Lassle).  She is survived by brothers Gil and Marvin Kaul, her children, six grandchildren; Jeremy, Ryan, and Andrew Gilbert, Anne, Daniel, and Peter Christensen, and seven great-grandchildren.
