Tribute

Doris Eileen Kinkead passed away due to natural causes on 3/12/24, at the age of 73.

Doris, a longtime resident of Spokane and Spokane Valley, is survived by her daughters, Amy, Christina and husband Don, Melody and husband Chris; her grandchildren Anthony, Paige, Skyler, Danika, Sean, Scott, Mathew and Tessa; great grandchildren Ryker, Kinley, and Urijah; her sisters Linda, Dorothy, Elaine; brother Gary and many more nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.

Doris was one of 8 children, born and raised in Washington state.  Doris graduated from Mabton High School and Big Bend Community College with her Associate of Arts degree.  She dreamt of being a writer when she was younger.

A single mother of three; with twins and her youngest only 1.5 years apart, Doris had her hands full.  Doris loved to sing, dance and to take road trips on the spur of the moment, enjoyed camping in her younger years, seeing new places and was always in search of an opportunity to start anew.

Her daughters have many memories of road trips with their mother, radio on and singing as they headed out to visit cousins, aunts and uncles or just take a drive to one of Washington state’s many beautiful sites.   Doris had a beautiful singing voice and loved to dance, much to her teenage daughter’s chagrin, but left memories that bring a smile on a day like this.

Doris was an excellent bread baker, and she was legendary among her daughters for her inability to cook a rice casserole that didn’t end up with a long soak in the sink.   Doris’s love of board games and card games brings memories of after school card games with their mother and school friends.  Her interest fueled her daughter’s lifelong love of those same activities.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date by the family.

Melody, Christina and Amy would like to thank the CHAS clinic, Frontier Behavior Health, local care givers, Valley Hospital and Sacred Heart hospital for their years long assistance and care of their mother as she struggled with her physical and mental health issues.  They would also like to thank Hennessey Valley Funeral Home for their kind words and assistance during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.
