Richard Guy Benson

Richard G. Benson, 64, of Veradale, Wash., passed away July 22, 2017. He was born Sept. 12, 1952, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Norman and Gladys Benson. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Mark Benson; wife Margret (Peggy) Labbs Benson and father Norman Benson. Richard is survived by daughter Marie (Duncan) Smith; and grandsons Mark, Damon and Issac Smith of Post Falls, Idaho; his significant other, Darlene Herrin of Veradale; mother Gladys Benson of Hayden, Idaho; brothers Pat (Ellen) Benson, Bill Benson and Stan (Virginia) Benson of Coeur d’Alene, Ken (Sherry) Benson of Post Falls and Mike (Lene) of Pago Pago, American Samoa; foster brother Dave (Penny) Oliver of Monticello, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was raised in Hayden and attended Coeur d’Alene schools. He was involved in baseball, basketball and track. He lived in Post Falls most of his adult life. He was a member of the Post Falls Eagles. He was employed at Kaiser Aluminum and belonged to the Steel Workers Union and the Woodworkers Union.
