Esther Jorcyk Maynard

Esther J. Maynard (b. Esther Emma Jorcyk) entered eternity with Jesus Christ on November 6, 2021. She was 99 years old. Esther is survived by her son Robert Scott, daughter-in-law Janice, grandsons Daren and Oliver, and great grandchildren Jacob and Amelia. Her second son, Gary passed in 1992. She had been at Colonial Court assisted living in Spokane Valley, WA for the past 13 months after living with her family in Otis Orchards, WA since June 2016.

Esther was born on August 27, 1922 in Scranton, PA, to Polish immigrant families, raised and married there, and moved to West Covina, CA with her husband and 2 young sons in 1954. Later divorced, she remained single, residing in the same house for 62 years. She worked as a part-time sales associate in the women’s shoe dept. at May Co. (became Macy’s) in West Covina for over 40 years until the store closed. She was active in the Coronado School PTA, and with the West Covina senior center in her retirement. She faithfully attended Immanuel First Lutheran Church from its inception in the early 1950s. Esther traveled frequently with her sons to visit family on the East coast as they grew up. There will be no formal ceremonies, but no doubt private ones when her son returns her ashes to the gravesites of her mother, father, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and son. 

Everyone who knew Esther remembers her as a gracious hostess, good cook and outgoing personality. She will especially be missed by Scott and Janice, who had the pleasure of her company, laughter, and generosity over many years. Many thanks, Mom. We’ll see you again.
