John Scott Strawn, age 61, of Spokane Valley, WA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2018, from his battle with lung cancer. John was born on March 3, 1957 in San Francisco, CA to Charles and Vivian Strawn. The Strawn family moved to Anaconda, Mt, where John went to school and graduated from Anaconda Senior High School in 1975. After graduation he enlisted into the US Navy, and was stationed in Portland, Oregon on the destroyer, the USS Hamner (DD718), as an Electrician until he was honorably discharged in 1979. During his time in the service John married Elizabeth Ann (Betty Ann) Driscoll on February 19, 1977.  They had 2 children, Kelly and Cody. After his service to his country, John and Betty moved to Port Angeles, WA where John worked as the manager of the Port Angeles Movie and Drive-In Theater. In 1980, John got a job with Pacific NW Bell and worked for them for 37 years as a lineman, frame tech, outside net tech, etc.

John was an avid bowler; he bowled in every town in which he lived and he went to Nationals many times. John ran the Saturday Junior Bowling Program for 20 years, and he was the secretary of the Sunday Nite Owls Bowling League and the Tuesday Men’s League at Players and Spectators in Spokane Valley WA.  John enjoyed being involved with the mini hydroplane boat races, SLORA (Stateline Outboard Racing Association), where he was the Pit Crewman for his daughter Kelly, son-in-law Jeston and grandson Andrew (Drew).

John and Betty enjoyed years of camping on the Washington coast with their kids, Kelly and Cody. In recent years they were joined by Kelly’s husband Jeston and their two boys Andrew and Gauge.

John is survived by his loving wife Betty of Spokane Valley, WA, daughter Kelly and her husband Jeston, grandsons Andrew Strawn and Gauge Burnett of Spokane Valley, WA; son Cody Strawn of Seattle, WA; brother Bob and Karen Strawn of Langley, WA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack and Diana Driscoll, Manhattan Beach, CA, Mary Ellen and Don James, and Cathy Downey, of Billings, MT. John will be missed by many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

John was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Vivian Strawn.

His wife and family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the staff of 11Tower at Deaconess Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to American Cancer Society of Spokane.
