Karen Delene McDonald

Born May 19, 1950 in Spokane, Washington to Delmar and Julia McDonald, Karen Delene McDonald passed away Saturday March 4, 2023 at Sullivan Park Care Center in Spokane Valley, Washington.  A graduate of East Valley High School, Karen also attended Apollo and Interface College. Throughout her life, Karen served as a medical assistant, laborer and in home caregiver.  From 1986 to 1990, Karen lived in Phoenix, Arizona where she primarily worked at a doctor’s office, and then in Spokane she worked at Key Tronics, Columbia Lighting and Colonial Care.  Karen’s interest in her life were in raising her children and when the grandchildren came a long, they became her world!  For many years, Karen was a single parent raising and providing for her son Josh Were.  As Josh became a young adult, Karen lived with her son Josh, daughter Amy McDonald and her two children Kayden Shyrah McDonald.  As Karen helped Amy raise her children, they became the pride and joy of her life, and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. Karens’ hobbies were watching her grandchildren grow and excel in their academics and sports.  Karen never missed a game or a meet and could always be seen standing up and cheering them on.  Karen also enjoyed painting ceramics, crocheting and reading James Patterson novels.  Karen was a caring, loving, warm and selfless provider.  She was a compassionate, wonderful daughter, mother, sister, grandma and friend.  Karen was preceded in death by her parents Delmar and Julia McDonald; sister Sharon Holland; brother Warren McDonald and grandparents Charles and Mabel Clifton.  Karen is survived by her son Josh Were of Spokane, WA; daughter Amy McDonald of Spokane, WA and five grandchildren Kayden-Klahn McDonald, Shyrah McDonald, Iza Bella Strobel, Banks Strobel and Jacob Were.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  To leave condolences for the family and share memories of Karen, please visit Karen's Tribute  Wall.
