Maurie Kathy Norman

July 10, 1950 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Maurie Kath-Irene Norman, age 67, died peacefully on November 07, 2017 in Spokane Valley, Wa., after her three year struggle with cancer. Kathy, known to all, was born on July 10, 1950 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as one of seven brothers and sisters to Maurice W. Tidwell and Elizabeth A. Burell. Along with all of her siblings, Kathy grew up in “a children’s home” until she turned 18. Thereafter she joined the United States Air Force where she spent 20 years proudly serving her country as a paralegal. On March 12, 1977 she married the love of her life, Dennis H. Norman, he too was also active United States Air Force. Together they continued their passions worldwide until they both retired where they first once met, Washington state. Throughout their military career, they had two children. One son, Dustin A. Norman (40), born in Madrid Spain and one daughter, Stephanie Y. Harris (35), born in Rockledge, Fl.

Friends and family were Kathy’s delight. Although she lived miles away, she would not hesitate to spend hours on the phone, or on the internet, catching up with them. Summer time, on Liberty Lake, was her favorite place to be. Riding in the front of the boat with the wind in her hair, unwinding and watching the sun set over Legacy Ridge. Every year, she loved to host the Annual 4th of July Celebration party. Where friends and family would gather throughout the day and wait to watch the fireworks show from the beach club.

Above all, she had an unwavering faith in God. In her lifetime, she was part of several local churches. If she couldn’t make it to church, she read her bible from cover to cover. When the world was right or wrong, she had some of her favorite bible verses to help see her through it. Sunday was a day of rest, “You do not work on Sunday!”

Kathy is a 2x breast cancer survivor as well as survived non-hodgkins lymphoma. She was a fighter and this last round took everything she had as she fought her biggest battle. She will continue to live in the hearts of all her family.

Along with her husband and children, Kathy is survived by her three sisters, Elizabeth Henry, Margaret Keeton, Ruth Standridge, and her 2 brothers, Maurice Tidwell and Edward Tidwell. Five grandbabies, Christian, Mikayla, Tyler, Colby and Melia.

There will be a viewing of Kathy on Wednesday November 15th, 2017 from 1pm to 5pm at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home 1315 N Pines Rd. On Thursday, November 16th, a formal ceremony will start at 11am at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home followed by a graveside military salute at Pines Cemetery, as her final resting place.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her throughout her life.
