On Nov. 12, 2021, Paul D. Maxwell passed from complications of a traumatic fracture.  Paul was a loving husband and wonderful father of three sons and one daughter, (Paul T, Gordon, Marcell and Lacy). He has seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a brother/ sister in-law and loving cousin.  His Clan were all at his bedside as he passed on.

On Aug. 22, 1938, Paul was born in Oakland CA. to parents, Gordon F. and Agnes (Armetta ) Maxwell.  Most of his adult life was spent in CA.  Paul loved school and attended Cal Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA; University of San Francisco; Dominican University in San Rafael, CA., completing Bachelors and Master degrees.

He utilized his educational background to secure jobs.  During his early years, Paul became a State Humane Officer in CA and worked in the Central Valley at the The Ferry-Morse Seed Co.  He was the director of the Boyd Museum, (now known as Wildcare), and one of the founders of the Marine Mammal Center in California. He was also the Zoologist at the San Francisco Zoo, the Director of the Environmental Education with the Marin County Schools, The Executive Director of The Marine Agriculture land trust, assisting the ranchers and farmers in protecting their land, and also the Executive Director of the Park and Open Space of Boulder County, Co.  Paul was a believer of the need to protect our farms, ranches and the environment as a whole.

Paul loved the science of medicine in both the human and animal population.  He utilized his biology and zoology degrees to help pioneer the advance of the science and care of marine mammals and as a bridge for his nursing career. He worked at Stanford Hospital in Pediatrics.  For several years he was the Infection Control Director at the Shriners Hospital for children and retired after ten years at Marin General Hospital as the Director of Infection Control.

Where the study of them could be the used in all aspects of the medical world.  The Marine Mammal Center remained close to his heart and all the wonderful people who work so very hard to keep his dream continually moving forward.
