Tex Marion Alexander

Tex Alexander, born November 29, 1940, in Spokane, WA, to Harold and Nellie Alexander, passed away in his Clayton, WA, home March 14th, 2018. Tex was 77 years old. His parents, and his first son Cord Marion Alexander preceded him in death. Surviving relatives are his son Chad Alexander of Spokane, daughter Jodie Verhaag (Adam Verhaag, son) of Spokane Valley, sister Cheryl Sherick (Lonnie Sherick), 4 nieces and nephews, Jadie, Scott, Jennifer and Brian, 4 grandchildren, Cord, Jay (Bailey), Katlynn and Alex, as well as great grandchildren Axel and Elijah.

Tex, yes that is his given name, was born and raised in Spokane, WA. He attended Pratt Elementary and Lewis and Clark high school. He served his country during the Vietnam Era. After marrying Judith Davis, whom he met during his service in Texas, they build a house on Mount Spokane where Tex raised his children Chad and Jodie. Tex valued hard work, and honesty. He worked at HyGrade, was self employed building snow plows and horse trailers, eventually working his way into the Operators Union where he ran heavy machinery including large cranes. He worked for the state during the winter plowing snow for Mt. Spokane State Park.

Tex loved to hunt, fish and horses. You should have seen him ride. He rode in Gymkhana’s, and broke horses. Some of my greatest memories are watching my dad work with horses, and long trail rides together. With retirement came a love of riding a motorcycle. He was a long time HOG member and rode all over the country. He put a lot of miles on a Honda before trading to Harley Davidsons. He put over 150,000 miles on his Softail. In 2014, he traded to a HD Street Glide, and had already put almost 50,000 miles on it. Tex loved nature and God. This last fall, Tex with his daughter and son in-law took three weeks to ride in the Smokey Mountains and the Ozarks witnessing the beautiful fall colors.

Tex was a devout Christian and had dedicated his life to the Lord. He loved his children with everything he had. He was an amazing father, and taught me the importance and value of honesty and integrity, as well as a love for horses, nature and God, and later Harleys. Tex loved to tell stories, and boy did he have some good ones. His stories will be missed by all, but especially by his grandchildren who loved to listen to grandpa’s tales.

A memorial Service will be held March 26th, 2018, 10:30am, at the Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church, 6525 N Monroe St, Spokane WA. A reception will follow. Graveside services will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA, at 2:15pm, to honor Tex’s service to the country. The family welcomes all who wish to honor a life well lived with them at either or both services.
