Born May 21, 1960 in Richmond, California to Franklyn and Julianne, Theodore “Ted” A. Mays passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 17, 2021 in Spokane Valley, Washington. Having graduated from Antioch High School, Ted attended Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA and received his Bachelors of Education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Ted was proud to serve his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, a country he loved and could not wait to visit again. Owner and manager of Gecko Books & Comics since 1987, Ted was known as a Human Happiness Dispenser and a walking “pop culture” encyclopedia. Compassionate, generous, caring, thoughtful, funny, smart, kind, gentle and forgiving, Ted loved his friends and family, animals, music, movies, sports, Magic, shopping, road trips, Taco Bell and Barack Obama! He is survived by his daughter Antonia (Toni) Mays; fiancé Suzy Scura; brothers Stephen (Erin) Oliver, and Jess (Kerry) Mays; nephew Jeff Oliver; sisters Michele (Shelly) Miracle, Lisa Mays (Kim Roberts), Laura Mays (Shawn Patrick) & Debbie (Vinnie) Moretti; Suzy’s family, Sean & Krista Scura, Derek Heilbrun & Jessica Espinoza, Faith & Brandon Cromer, Jan Scura & Bill Laube and three grandchildren, Keana, Sean & Lucy Scura. Ted also left behind many adored nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Mays and Julie MacLaren, and his beloved brother-in-law, John Miracle.
