USAF CMSGT (RET.) William J. Broadwater, age 82, of Spokane Valley, WA peacefully passed away in his home on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 after a long courageous battle with Dementia. “Bill” (as he was known by friends and family) was born on July 11, 1939 in Waynesburg, PA, the son of Edward and Lucille S. Broadwater.
Upon graduating high school in 1957, he immediately enlisted in the US Air Force serving at bases throughout the United States, Europe and Asia during his 30-year career. “Chief Broadwater” loved the military and if there hadn’t been a service cap of 30 years for an NCO, he most certainly would’ve volunteered to stay in much longer. He was a devoted life member of the VFW (Posts #3386 and #1435) serving over the years in their Honor Guard, and as Quartermaster, Adjutant, District Inspector and WA State Inspector. He was also a member of the American Legion (Post #143, Post Falls, ID) and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Spokane Valley. Bill was an honorable countryman, patriot and ardent supporter of Veteran causes. His family couldn’t be prouder of the legacy he left behind.
He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Miyuki Broadwater, and his parents, Edward and Lucille S. Broadwater. He is survived by his only child and daughter, Christy, sister, Carol Silbaugh Broadwater (Bob Coleman), niece Sally Chambers (Robbie Chambers) and grand-nieces, Lauren Davis (Joseph Davis) and Kristen Chambers. The family wishes to especially thank: Horizon Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to him until his final days (Allison & Lindsey most especially); the Booey family, Toshiko and Ken Lien, and Kiyo Thomas for your life-long friendships and support; the Dauer family and Dean Treichel, the kindest neighbors he could’ve ever known and finally, on Bill’s behalf, to all his Veteran friends, former colleagues, active duty and retired, we salute you with our sincerest appreciation for your sacrifices and service.
